Summer is the season for outdoor farmers markets, and if you’re looking to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables, locally made products, and more, then you don’t have to travel very far. The Niskayuna Farmers Market is held every summer at the Niskayuna Town Hall on Saturdays from early July through mid-October. This farmers market features around 15-20 vendors selling produce, baked goods, prepared foods, candles, soaps, and other items.

Or, take a short trip to the large Schenectady Greenmarket, which is held outside Schenectady City Hall on Sundays from mid-April through mid-November. Featuring over 60 unique vendors and a great selection of local produce and artisan goods, the Schenectady Greenmarket has everything you need for the season.

Bring Your Balcony or Patio to Life With a Garden

Each luxury apartment at Rivers Ledge has either a private balcony or patio for relaxing, but when summer arrives, consider transforming yours into a mini garden. Local garden centers are filled with plants and flowers that can really brighten up your outdoor living space and make it even more inviting.

Or, think about starting a container garden instead. You can grow tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, herbs, and other vegetables right in the pot, making them easy to manage just outside the door. It’s a fun way to use your apartment’s patio or balcony.

Experience a Day Hike in the Great Outdoors

An early morning day hike is the perfect way to stay active in summer and beat the heat. Luckily, there are plenty of awesome hiking trails to pick from that are worth the drive. You can travel north toward the Adirondacks and discover the beauty of the Lake George area at Prospect Mountain, Sleeping Beauty Mountain, Black Mountain, and other mountains around the lake. Or, continue even farther into the Park and spend the whole day conquering one of the 46 High Peaks.

Alternatively, you can take a 40-minute drive south to beautiful Thacher State Park in Voorheesville, which offers views of the Adirondacks, Green Mountains, and Hudson-Mohawk Valleys. There are multiple hiking trails to explore at this state park, including the popular Indian Ladder Trail and its waterfalls. It’s easy to spend hours at Thacher State Park, especially if you bring a picnic or visit the on-site aerial adventure course, WildPlay Thacher.

Plan a Beach Day in the Area

Are you ready to kick back, relax, and soak up the summer sun? Pack your bags and check out one of the local beaches in the Capital Region. Two of the closest options to Rivers Ledge include Brown’s Beach on southern Saratoga Lake and the beach at Thompson’s Lake Campground, located within Thacher State Park. Spend a few hours sunbathing and swimming before returning to your apartment home.

Note: If you’re interested in a pool day instead, the new pools at Rivers Ledge are currently under construction. Once open, they will be the ideal hangout spot on a hot day.

Head to the Drive-In Theater

A trip to the drive-in movie theater is a nostalgic summer activity, and you can still enjoy it nearby. The Malta Drive-In is located 25 minutes north of Rivers Ledge and has been in continuous operation since 1949. They show movies on two screens and offer a concession stand for guests.

Or, the Jericho Drive-In in Glenmont is just under 40 minutes from Rivers Ledge and has a full ice cream shop available named Twist.
