Spring Cleaning: Kitchen Edition

New year, new you—right? After our post-holiday blues have subsided, we’re ready to attack the new year, and we bet you’re feeling the same. Kick off your spring cleaning by starting with the heart of every home: the kitchen!

Step 1: Declutter

Step one of maximizing your kitchen storage is decluttering everything—yes, we mean everything! Take all dishware, forgotten snacks at the back of your pantry, and everything else out of your cabinets and off your counters to start from square one. As you declutter, take note of your kitchen items, group similar items together, and designate specific areas for each category. After categorizing your kitchen items, go through each pile and donate or discard anything you don’t use regularly.

Step 2: Do a Deep Clean of the Area

Get that ‘just-moved-in’ feel by deep cleaning the kitchen. After clearing your kitchen spaces, wipe away the old crumbs, grime, and anything else left behind. Don’t forget to wipe down the front and back of all cabinet doors, shelves, and handles. Once you’re done cleaning, use a clean, dry towel to wipe down any remaining residue—especially any places where food will be stored.

Step 3: Time for Organizational Fun

Your kitchen should be organized for you and how you use the space—it is your kitchen, after all! Do you only use your toaster once a month? Consider placing it in the far back corner of a lower cabinet. Are you always searching for a spatula to use when cooking? Place it in the drawer next to the stove for convenience.

To take your kitchen organization to the next level, consider utilizing some of the following tips:

Use Clear Containers

Opt for clear containers for pantry items like grains, cereals, and pasta. Not only does this add an aesthetically appealing look to your kitchen, but it also allows you to see the contents easily, preventing the need to search through cluttered cabinets.

Use Drawer Organizers

Maximize your drawer space with organizers that can be used to separate utensils, cutlery, and kitchen gadgets, ensuring that everything has its designated place. Drawer organizers are a simple yet effective solution for maintaining order in your kitchen.

Maximize Corner Cabinets

Corner cabinets are often underutilized, but there are solutions to make the most of this space! Lazy Susans or pull-out trays can be great additions to help access items in those hard-to-reach corners.
