Did you know that Rivers Ledge Apartments allows pets? It’s true! As long as residents adhere to our pet policy and live in one of our pet-friendly buildings, they are welcome to have up to two dogs or cats in their luxury apartment homes.
If you’re moving to Rivers Ledge and are wondering what types of pet-related resources are available nearby, you’ll be happy to know that there are dog parks, veterinarians, pet supply stores, groomers, and more in and near Niskayuna NY. Read on to learn about the businesses and hotspots that are here for you and your pets!
Rivers Ledge residents are welcome to walk their leashed dogs around the community’s sidewalks and greenspaces, and we even have pet stations with bag dispensers throughout the property. If you need Fido to burn off a bit more energy, though, you’ll want to consider one of the Capital Region’s dog parks.
There are two options within a five mile radius of Rivers Ledge: The City of Schenectady Dog Park in Central Park, and Andersen Dog Park at the corner of Van Buren and Swaggertown Roads. Before visiting Andersen Dog Park, you’ll need to register your dog through the Glenville Town Clerk. Questions about the City of Schenectady Dog Park may be directed to the City’s Parks Department.
If you’re up for a longer drive, Scentral Bark Dog Park in Halfmoon is 11 miles east of Rivers Ledge. You must apply for a permit through the Town of Halfmoon and pay a nominal fee each year, but both residents and non-residents are allowed to go through the process.
While not a dog park, it’s worth noting that the Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail, which runs right past Rivers Ledge, is dog-friendly in certain areas as long as dogs remain on-leash at all times.
No matter where you choose to exercise your dog, remember to clean up after them to avoid a fine.
If you’re relocating to Niskayuna, you’ll want to establish your pets with one of the local veterinarians.
Aqueduct Animal Hospital, River Road Animal Hospital, Hernas Veterinary Clinic, and Sunnyside Veterinary Hospital are all very close to Rivers Ledge, but the Union Street Veterinary Hospital, Niskayuna Animal Hospital, Banfield Pet Hospital, and Cornerstone Veterinary Hospital of Clifton Park are within a reasonable driving distance as well.
Pet owners should also make note of Upstate Veterinary Specialties in Latham, about a 20 minute drive from Rivers Ledge, since it’s the closest 24-hour emergency veterinarian.
Pet Supply Stores
If you like to shop local when you buy your pet’s food and supplies, you may want to try Everything Pets in Schenectady or Benson’s Pet Center in Clifton Park. There are also several big box stores nearby, including PetSmart and Pet Supplies Plus.
Daycare & Boarding
Some of the local veterinarians offer boarding services, but there are also other pet resorts nearby that can pamper your animals while you’re at work or out of town.
The Dog Chateau in Glenville is 9 miles from Rivers Ledge and offers daycare and boarding on their 11 acre property.
If you’re heading south, other options that offer daycare and boarding include Dog’s Retreat in Latham, plus Pet Spas & Suites, Pinebush Kennels, Camp Bow Wow, and Big and Small Come One Come All Dog Care, all of which are in Albany.
If your commute or travels take you north, you may want to consider Burnt Hills Boarding Kennel, Upstate Canine Academy, Pet Lodge of Clifton Park, or Milton Manor Pet Resort & Spa.
Some businesses also offer grooming services, obedience training, live cameras so you can keep an eye on your pets, and more. Be sure to do your own research so you’ll choose the facility that meets the specific needs of you and your pet.
Keep your pets looking their best with help from a local groomer. A Round of A-Paws Pet Salon, Wag Town Dog Grooming, Jackie’s Pet Salon, Paradise Pet Salon, Pet Precision, Head To Tail, Prancin’ Pretty, Pawsitively Pampered Pet Salon, and Sonja’s Pet Salon are just a few of the options you’ll find in Niskayuna, Glenville, and Schenectady.
If your pup needs a bath, but isn’t due for a full grooming, you can use the dog wash station in the Recreation Building right here at Rivers Ledge.
