Clifton Park: The Perfect Day Trip Destination for Rivers Ledge Residents

Thanks to its convenient location in Upstate New York’s Capital Region, Rivers Ledge is close to plenty of fun cities and towns where you can spend a day exploring and enjoying what the area has to offer. One of those nearby spots is Clifton Park, a beautiful town with big-city amenities and small-town charm. The best part? It’s only ten minutes from Rivers Ledge Apartments.

Spend the Morning Playing Golf (or Mini-Golf, if That’s More Your Style)

If the best start to your day is spending some time on the green, check out Eagle Crest Golf Club! This beautiful, 18-hole golf course is reasonably priced and even has specials for seniors.

If you’re interested in something a bit more kid-friendly (or if golf really isn’t your style), try mini-golf at Players Park, the largest mini golf course in the area. It boasts 18 holes, and even has a 19th hole at the end—that is, 19th Hole Ice Cream Treats, where you and the littles can enjoy a treat after the competition is over.

Take a Stroll at Vischer Ferry

Vischer Ferry Nature & Historic Preserve is a lovely spot to take a stroll, no matter the time of year. The preserve is located along the shores of the Mohawk River—the same as Rivers Ledge—and is made up of over 700 acres of wetlands and floodplains. If you’re a birder, this spot is perfect for you; it’s a DEC-designated Bird Conservation Area, with over 200 observed bird species in the area.

Vischer Ferry is the perfect spot for a hike during the warmer months or a cross-country ski trip during the winter—and in all seasons, the views of the river from Whipple Bridge are great. There’s a picnic area on the riverfront in the preserve as well, so you’ll have a spot to enjoy a snack or lunch after you hit the trails.

Shop for Unique Items at Wit’s End

Wit’s End is a really unique spot; there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re browsing to decorate your apartment at Rivers Ledge or looking to purchase a gift for a loved one, you’ll find it at Wit’s End. The shop carries everything from locally-made wares to high-end goods.

The store features a large children’s section, a variety of seasonal goods, kitchen items, the latest fashion releases from many designer brands, and much more. You may want to make a separate trip to Clifton Park just to visit Wit’s End, though, because the entire afternoon might slip away as you browse this massive store.

Do a Tasting at Yankee Distillery

In their custom Italian-made copper stills, Yankee Distillery produces small-batch rye whiskey, bourbon whiskey, rum, and vodka using 100% unmalted New York State grain. You’ll definitely want to bring a bottle (or two) back to Rivers Ledge, and we wouldn’t be surprised if their spirits become a staple in your home bar.

Visit their tasting room, open from Wednesday through Saturday, and try delicious classics like the Manhattan or more contemporary cocktails, such as Cucumber Vodka Lemonades.

Wrap Up the Day With Dinner at Wheatfield’s Bistro and Wine Bar

Wheatfield’s is a farm-to-table restaurant featuring locally-grown produce and fresh pasta made each day. The restaurant has a variety of options to suit every dietary need, including vegetarian and gluten-free dishes.

One of the most notable parts of Wheatfield’s is their emphasis on training for their bar personnel. If you have a nose for wine and a passion for incredibly crafted cocktails, you’ll appreciate their advanced sommelier and mixology skills.

Since Wheatfield’s is just 10 minutes from Rivers Ledge, it could become your new favorite place to get a bite.
